The Manner of Happiness
Today's reading of the Book of Mormon was the last half of 2 Nephi 5. In verse 27, it says, "And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness."
What a great scripture!
I love the proactive voice of this verse. They make happiness into something they "live after" - like chasing after. It's a deliberate choice to live in the ways that bring and create happiness. What a great thing that is!
I think sometimes (at least I do at times) we wait for happiness to come - as if it's something reserved for the lucky, the successful, or the "chosen". But it is available for all, and can be pursued and obtained through righteous living.
I think about our pioneer ancestors who struggled to cross the plains and mountains to arrive in Utah. Or even Nephi himself - who to this point in the Book of Mormon has faced so much hardship and trial at the hands of others and circumstances, and even from the Lord's commands. But, yet, he understood that happiness is not reserved for those without trials, but is the result of the Lord's peace - something that comes from the Spirit's reassurance that we are living right.
Anyway, I do love this verse and was glad to read it today.
I hope we all live after the manner of happiness today. Have an amazing day. Love to all.
